250-Word Synopsis
The Transfiguration of Harold Maines is the story of a man who leaves his life behind to pursue his dreams. But his dreams are not the routine dreams of fame and fortune. Rather, Harold Maines dreams of becoming a horse. Raised by his single father, Harold spent his life haunted by the thought that he was born into the wrong body. As a child he experimented with supernatural powers, heard animals talk to him, and developed a strange fascination with horses. When he came of age, he rejected these childhood fascinations and pursued what he perceived to be the "American dream" of a job, wife and kids. After temporarily succeeding, he eventually decided to abandon his job and family for a horse farm in rural Illinois. And when this new life turned out to be less than idyllic, he was left no choice but to leave his human body forever. This film by Jared W. Johnson is shot in the documentary style and set in the months following Harold's mysterious disappearance. The documentary-style interviews were completely improvised previous to the establishment of a script and expose a wide spectrum of artistic interactions with Harold's character. Featuring a soundtrack by Nashville recording artist Neilson Hubbard and a series of abstract animated dream sequences, this film hopes to inspire anyone who dreams of becoming something different than what they are.
